The beginnings · A history still being recovered
The cemetery opposite the church is known as the Lina’s Road, Blackwater Road community, or John Wesley cemetery. Its earliest burial and precise establishment date remain under research. The church’s 1879 beginning should not automatically be used as the cemetery’s founding date.
1960 · Part of the land story
Thomas T. Spicer’s conveyance of land opposite the church to its trustees is part of the property history. Further work is needed to connect that transaction with the cemetery’s earlier use and present boundaries.
1985–2024 · Generations remembered
Mary Catherine Cornish was buried at John Wesley cemetery in April 1985. George Harrison Meekins Sr. was buried in the Lina’s Road community cemetery in September 1987. Shirley McNamara’s burial in December 2024 connects more recent generations with this place.
Each marker, burial record, and remembered name helps preserve the community’s history. Unmarked graves and uncertain inscriptions also deserve care and attention.
Today · Stewardship and continued access
The cemetery remains active in the community’s account. It is included in the approved transfer petition, with title work reported as ongoing. The Group’s aim is to preserve its sacred character, continued care, and access for descendants.
Groundskeeping, drainage, paths, marker conservation, documentation, insurance, and continuing maintenance all form part of that responsibility. Please arrange visits with the Group.
